August 7 is National Lighthouse Day.

This day honors the beacons that have lit the way for so many vessels on the waters around and within the U.S.

Here are just a few of the many lights I have passed on my Great Lakes Adventures:

40-Mile Point Lighthouse - Lake Huron

Fort Gratiot Lighthouse - Lake Huron (oldest in Michigan)

Point Au Barques Lighthouse - Lake Huron

Tawas Point Lighthouse - Lake Huron

Marblehead Light - Lake Erie (oldest in Great Lakes)

Charlevoix Channel Light - Lake Michigan

40-Mile Point Light (during my second hike/Lake Huron)

Big Sable Lighthouse (Lake Michigan)

Which lighthouse is YOUR favorite?
[Mine is Little Sable on Lake Michigan.]

National Lighthouse Day

August 7 is National Lighthouse Day.

This day honors these beacons that have lit the way for so many vessels on the waters around and within the United States.

Here are just a few of the many lights I have passed on my 1000-Mile Great Lakes Adventures:

The Marblehead Lighthouse in Ohio was built in 1821

The Au Sable Lighthouse in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Tawas Point Lighthouse

St. Joseph lighthouse

Grand Traverse Lighthouse

In early August, I went on a lighthouse tour in northern Lake Huron and saw these gems:

Cheboygan Crib Light

Fourteen Foot Shoal Light

Bois Blanc Island Light

Poe Reef Light

Michigan City News-Dispatch Article

I had read the article online that the Michigan City paper did on the trek, but I had no idea it was on the front page until Janet Smith, owner of the Feallock House B&B, sent me a copy of the paper!

Nice photo, too, with the Michigan City lighthouse over my shoulder.

It's snowing here right now, and I'm glad to have a week off the trek to let the weather sort itself out. The next segment is from South Haven to Grand Haven, around 50 miles.

I head back to the lake on April 6.
