I had a busy week crisscrossing the state of Michigan, giving presentations about my
Great Lakes Adventures.
The week began in St. Helen, Michigan, where I gave the presentation about my first 1,000-mile hike around Lake Michigan.

Then, I headed downstate to Birmingham to the lovely All Seasons community where I gave my
Islands of the Great Lakes presentation.

On Friday, I had two events. First, I spoke to seniors in Beverly, MI, giving my
Our Majestic Great Lakes talk.
Then, as I was on my way to the final event of the week (in Marshall, MI), I realized that I would be giving my fourth presentation on
Isle Royale, Wilderness Island.

That's when I realized that in one week, I was going to deliver all four of my presentations!

I was delighted to return to the senior center in Georgetown, Michigan (near Grand Rapids).
They had me speak to their group in the spring about my Great Lakes Walk and they booked me again to give my Great Lakes Islands presentation.

The room fills up!

The group is engrossed with a video taken on Manitoulin Island

Many venues that have booked me in the past are booking me for return engagements.

I now have three presentations
correlating with my books:
The first is about my hike all the way around
Lake Michigan.
The second is about my hike touching
all five Great Lakes.
And the third is about my adventure exploring
the islands of the Great Lakes.

I am now booking events for 2016.

Efroymson Conservation Center

In September, I did a speaking tour for
The Nature Conservancy.

One of my presentations was at their headquarters in Indianapolis, the Efroymson Conservation Center.

Exterior of the center

Though I've toured several gold LEED rated buildings, this is the first platinum LEED rated building I've ever come across.

Lobby

All the brick in this building and much of the wood was reclaimed and reused from the building previously on the site.
Rainwater is captured and used by the green roof or the gardens around the center which are planted with native species. Storm water that falls on the property is also gathered via permeable pavement to be reused on site to water plants or to flush the toilets in the center.

Geothermal heating and cooling and a lighting system that automatically senses when it is needed are also components making this an incredibly GREEN building.

Tales from the Book Tour: Lansing District Libraries

Explaining the finer points of Great Lakes geology

This April I traveled to the Aurelius and Foster branches of the Lansing District Libraries.

I love giving my presentation to groups all over the Great Lakes region and beyond, and especially to Michiganders. Residents of Michigan are peninsular people. Our state has watery edges and is defined by these vast inland seas.

Tales from the Book Tour: American Business Women's Association

My book tour in April took me to libraries, retirement communities, schools, and a meeting of a women's professional group.

Actually, two professional groups -- ABWA and IAAP -- came together for this meeting in Grand Ledge outside of Lansing.

Gotta love a group that puts out chocolate on the table!

This group meets monthly to network, develop professional skills, and also raise money for scholarships for women!

What a lovely group of women!
